Oh, friends. Where do I even begin with today’s brand reveal? This past March, I met Brooke Tucker at the Creative at Heart Conference when she was an attendee. We laughed together, shared a few tears as she shared her heart behind her brand with me, and hugged more times than I can count. I knew right then and there that this creative was someone special, and when she reached out to me to work together for her re-brand, my heart did cartwheels! Brooke is a family and motherhood photographer currently based in Virginia Beach with a heart as big and caring as the sky. She is passionate about capturing the real, untouched moments that make up the everyday of a busy momma, and her dedication to preserving a family’s memories is nothing short of inspiring. Through her unique photo series titled the Motherhood Journals, and her joyful approach to capturing child and family sessions, it’s easy to see how much this woman cares for what matters most in life – our families.

Brooke is fiercely dedicated to documenting real life, not the overly staged or heavily touched up images that you’d find in magazines. Her mantra, “Real is better than Perfect,” is something we blazed on our hearts as we worked together to create a visual brand that reflected that belief through earthy hues, organic lettering and heartfelt icons.

Brooke’s work and life are heavily tied to the sea, and we wanted to focus on capturing the raw, untamed beauty of the ocean in her brand visuals, tying them to the raw beauty of motherhood and family life itself. When creating her color palette, we wanted to draw inspiration from the stormy sea, the sky and the hue of worn, well-loved leather – all elements that Brooke surrounds herself with daily.

My absolute favorite component of Brooke’s branding is the little set of waves we created as the main icon in her logo. I not-so-subtly snuck a heart into the design of the first two wave crests to represent the amount of emotion and love that lies at the core of Brooke’s work. For her, capturing her client’s memories give them the ability to truly celebrate their present season of life, for all it’s imperfections, toddler meltdowns, messy topknot days, and everything in-between.

Brooke and I also collaborated on her website redesign, which was a fun project I rarely take on! Brooke’s website is built on Showit with a WordPress blog, which was an absolute blast to design. We created a sweet portion of the site to showcase some of Brooke’s favorite things, where I designed some custom illustrations to reflect her vibrant, effervescent personality!

There is nothing more humbling than having the opportunity to work with creative boss ladies who allow you to help them shape the visual identity for something so close to their hearts – their life’s best work. In all Brooke does, it’s clear to see that she invests heart and soul into every facet. I’m honored that my time working with this incredible woman blossomed into a sweet friendship, one that I will hold dear for years to come.
