Over the past few weeks, I’ve been getting a few comments and messages online from fellow creatives who wonder how they can connect with their ideal clients, the kinds of clients who will be willing to invest in their services, online. I hear you, boss lady! It can often feel like a fine balance trying to share your work online all while speaking to those who need your work the most.
In the past few years, I’ve worked diligently to hone not only who my ideal client is but how can I can connect with them in a way where we can not only work together, and how we can build a lasting relationship. Whether you’re just starting out in your business or you’re investing more thought into how to reach your ideal audience, I’m sharing a few of my go-to tips below.
Know Who They Are
In order to capture your ideal client’s attention, you have to know them intimately. More than what they might do for a living or where they shop on the weekends, you need to understand their psychographics — their attitudes, worldviews, aspirations and more! When we can get inside our ideal client’s heads to understand what they value, what their big dreams are, and what truly matters most to them, then we can begin to connect the dots as to how our work can fit into their lives. Knowing your ideal client on a deeper level can equip you to market effectively, create relevant products or services, and take so much of the guesswork out of connecting with those who need your work the most.
Speak Directly to Them
As we begin to understand who our ideal client is, we need to keep that information in mind as we speak directly to them consistently. Every social media post, blog post, email to your list, and page on your website is an opportunity to connect with your ideal client as you speak in a way they can resonate with organically! Keep your brand’s unique voice and tone in mind as you speak to their individual pain points or as you paint a picture that aligns with their values.
Create Offerings that Meet Their Needs
Speaking of pain points, the most effective way to create profitable products and services is to create offerings that meet your ideal client’s needs. As a general rule, your work should be alleviating a problem they face, adding value to their life, or helping them achieve their goals in a clear and concise way! When your work can seamlessly fit into their life, marketing your work becomes so much easier. Instead of pitching every time you turn around, you can paint an accurate picture of how their lives can look once they buy your course/order your product/invest in your services to help them achieve greatness, whatever greatness looks like to them.
Be Where They Are (Online)
The cherry on top? Spend your time marketing your work online using the specific platforms where your ideal client already is. After following the first three steps, you’ll know who you’re trying to reach, how to speak to them, and how your work will realistically fit into their lives! So now it’s time to share that information with them in organic spaces where they’re already spending their time. Whether that’s on a specific social channel, a blog, or a Facebook group, pay attention to where your ideal clients are online so you can be where they are in an unassuming way.
Use these ideas as a catalyst to help you connect more with the kinds of clients who need your work the most, friend!
