It’s all too easy to think that your brand’s color palette only translates through your logo or your website. In our digital age, we often forget that tactile touchpoints, or points of contact, enable us to represent our brands visually, too! As creatives, the more we can intentionally weave our color palettes throughout our visual presences, the more visual consistency we can build and the more recognizable we become to our ideal clients. If you’re not quite sure what it looks like the weave your color palette throughout tangible points, keep on reading to discover my favorite ways to make it happen!
Business Card Edging
The creative use of often neglected spaces, like the little edges around your business cards, can be a great way to spruce things up. Instead of printing just the front and back of your cards, choose one accent color from your brand palette and have your cards edged for an added visual effect. Commercial print shops are happy to add this on to any print job, or you can do the DIY route thanks to some Pinterest tutorials.
Stationery Stock
Color doesn’t have to be limited to the inks used for your printing! The color of the paper you actually use for different stationery pieces, business cards, or inserts can be a thoughtful way to elevate an everyday piece of print collateral to something extraordinary. In the past, I’ve found the perfect deep shade of navy blue stock for a client to use copper foil stamping, and I’ve also paired soft French blue with blind embossing for a monochromatic effect!
Envelopes
If you want to keep your stationery on the classic side of things, there’s so much potential when it comes to weaving color throughout your envelopes. Whether you get creative with the color of your envelopes themselves or you opt for a vibrant envelope liner on the inner flap of your envelopes, this is a smart way to really set the tone for what vendors or clients can expect when they receive a note from you.
Ribbon
With the rise of hand dyed silk ribbons in the industry, finding the perfect shade to reflect your brand visually has never been easier. I love encouraging my clients to use ribbon as part of their gifting experience for their own clients, or as a thoughtful way to tie hang tags onto products for my product-based clients. Adorn Co. and Silk & Willow are two of my favorite shops to pick up spools of hand dyed ribbon.
Stamps/Seals
Color can translate beautifully through even the smallest of details, and the use of wax seals or custom stamps for packaging or stationery is no exception. Wax and ink come in the full spectrum of the color wheel, and metallic shades are also available for an added bit of shine. Personally, using a metallic wax to seal letters to clients or vendors is a smart way to add a bit of gleam to your print presence without going overboard. Ink pads are also a fantastic way to bring in an accent color from your palette, and they work well on envelopes, flat mailers, packaging, and more.
