How to tell it’s time to hire a business strategist or coach

I’ve been in business for six incredible years and looking back over at the very beginning I still can’t believe all the amazing women that have walked into my life through this business I get to run every day. But realistically, a few years into my business I hit a few roadblocks here and there. And I remember thinking, is it time for me to invest in a program or mentor that will help me move forward in my business with clarity?

So, of course, I did what many entrepreneurs do over the years. I invested in 1:1 mentoring and strategy in order to help me reach my goals.

Now I get it. There are a ton of great options out there from webinars, to courses, to 1:1 strategists and business coaches. But which one is right for you?

It’s important to figure out which option makes sense for you and your business. And on top of that, it’s important to understand when it’s time to move forward with making that investment. As a business owner, you must pour back into yourself in order to run a business with confidence and clarity.

So today, sweet friend, I want to talk you through how you can determine whether or not it’s time to hire a business strategist or coach.

HOW TO TELL IT’S TIME TO HIRE A BUSINESS STRATEGIST OR COACH

I want to walk you through four ways to help you navigate this season and move forward with a clear plan.

Personally, I ended up choosing to invest in a business strategist because I saw where she was in her season of life and business. I respected how she got there and I wanted her to teach me her ways!

I wanted to learn how to realistically get where she was and reach her level of success faster than if I did it on my own.

When I think about hiring a strategist or mentor, ultimately for me it boils down to this. Do you want to take the long road and do it yourself through trial and error? Or do you want to invest in someone who has gone where you want to go and can help you get there in half the time?

So let’s dive into the four steps that can help you decide how to move forward and what is the best option for you.

TELLTALE SIGN #1

The first sign that it’s time to hire a business strategist or coach is if you cannot see a clear path ahead.

Do you find yourself feeling overwhelmed and confused? If you feel like everyday you are trudging through molasses when in your office, that is a clear sign it’s time to really invest back into yourself and hire someone who can help pull you out of that funk.

If you don’t know how to move forward with clarity, or if you don’t even see what that sense of clarity looks like for yourself, then it’s time to bring in some outside help who can really invest a fresh pair of eyes and a whole lot of intentional strategy back into you and your business.

So, sweet friend, if you are constantly spinning your wheels and not seeing a whole lot of traction, it’s time to invest in yourself and hire a business coach and strategist.

TELLTALE SIGN #2

The second telltale sign it’s time to hire a strategist or coach is if you never know where your time is actually going.

If you find yourself sitting down at your desk, clocking into your work day and before you know it’s the end of your office hours, but you have no idea where your time actually went then listen up.

Maybe you spent your entire time in your inbox. Or you got sucked into “an emergency client project.” Whatever the situation, you know you aren’t making the wisest use of your time.

As a fellow mentor and strategist, that lets me know you need someone who can help you transition more into a CEO mindset.

What I mean is you need someone who can help you spend less time doing the busy work, day-to-day menial tasks, and instead help you focus your time and energy on your highest points of contribution. Sometimes that looks like simplifying workflows. Other times it looks like hiring a team.

But whatever the solution to your problem in this specific area, if you find yourself losing precious time and you are unsure of where each minute or every hour of the day is going then something has to change.

TELLTALE SIGN #3

The third sign it’s time to invest back into yourself is if you are craving someone to hold you accountable.

Maybe you have some great ideas how to chase after your goals and how to get where you want to go, but you are struggling to hold yourself accountable to actually taking action on those ideas.

This is where a coach, mentor or strategist can come in and help hold you accountable, challenge you to set deadlines, and help you hit your goals.

For my mentoring clients and the women inside my group coaching program, the Heartfelt Brand Society, one of the biggest things I’ve built into my approach is a clear sense of accountability. Not only do they know I’m here cheering them on every step of the way, but I’m also lovingly holding them accountable to the deadlines they set for themselves.

If that is something you feel would motivate you to help you move forward with a lot of purpose and clarity in a timely fashion then looking outside your everyday circle could be a great solution for you.

TELLTALE SIGN #4

The fourth sign you are ready to invest in a business coach or strategist is if you are willing to do the work.

Now, I say this because I’ve learned from my own mentoring clients who have seen the most dramatic results from working with me ultimately see those results because they are ready and willing to put in the time it takes to make it happen.

If you are someone who is looking for a quick fix or are ready to slap a bandaid on whatever roadblocks are in your way, then this isn’t going to be an approach for you.

But, if you are a creative who is ready and willing to get your hands dirty. If you are ready to dive in and do the work, and celebrate and reap the benefits of your hard work. Then working 1:1 in a group coaching program, with a mentor, or strategist could really be a great fit for you.

What is a clear path for you to move forward?
