As a designer and strategist with over seven years of experience in the industry, I completely understand how important it is to make sure you’re putting your brand’s best foot forward. Being a service provider who makes a living pouring into the brands and businesses of your own clients through your design work, it’s so crucial you’re practicing what you preach.

But how often do you go months and months and maybe even years not updating your own website, print collateral, portfolio, etc., and as a result end up sending potential clients to an outdated visual brand of your own work?

That stinks right? And it’s never a good feeling. It reminds me of that old idiom that says: the cobbler’s children have no shoes.

I think no matter what industry you’re in—whether you’re a social media manager, event planner, photographer, you name it—it’s so easy to pour so much time, talent and energy into our client’s businesses, while unintentionally neglecting our own.
