My Boss Lady Reading List for March + April

April 7, 2016

Happy Thursday, lovelies! Since I missed posted this during March (oh my heavens, where did that month go?), I wanted to pop over here today and share what’s been on my nightstand and filling my free time lately. Having sped through my earlier reading picks for this year, I decided to pull a healthy mix of business material mixed with a novel or two to help me unwind after a busy day in the studio!

Tribes, Seth Godin

Although it’s certainly not new on the market, I’ve heard such incredible things about this book that I felt it warranted an add to my Amazon cart! And even though I was already familiar with different principles in this book, there were some great insights that have been informative and encouraging. It’s a quick read, and even if you take your time and read a little daily, you should be able to wrap it up within a week or less.

Godin has this book broken into bite-size sections, each delving deeper into examples, calls to action to actionable content on building your own tribe, and stepping up to lead. I appreciated that this book could be applied to those in small business or those who work for a larger company, as leadership can look different in any number of situations or environments! Personally, I took away some great nuggets of wisdom on how I can more purposefully be serving and leading those I work with.

The 4-Hour Workweek, Timothy Ferriss

In all honesty, friend, I’m about a tenth of the way through this book! I picked up the hardcover edition, which is surprisingly heftier than I would’ve anticipated. Even such a short amount of the way in, I’ve poured over some great examples and inspiration on how to design the kind of life that you love, not one you want to run from through countless vacations. I know we hear all the time that life is too short, but ever since the losses we experienced last year, that idiom has been ringing in my eyes. And paired with the premise of this book – to work less, live more, and create the life that you thought only the rich could afford – I’m already feeling motivated to make some long terms goals come to life. Because who says you can’t spend part of your year overseas and still manage your small business? Have laptop + wifi, will travel!

All the Light We Cannot See, Anthony Dorr

This is the novel I wanted to pick up to give my brain a little break from all the business tips and concepts. Set in German-occupied France during World War II, this story centers on a blind French girl and a young German boy and their unlikely relationship. So, you know, typical light reading!

Once I dive into this piece, I’ll be sure to post my thoughts. My hope is that it will be a vivid and engaging read that will replace some Netflix time with more time spent reading!

The 4-hour Workweek sounds amazing! I really want to pick that up now. I read All the Light You Cannot See at the beginning of this year, and it really stuck with me for days. Such a moving story. I’ve been dabbling in some Young Adult Fantasy to give my mind a break from business related things as well!

So glad to hear you enjoyed All the Light We Cannot See! I’m looking forward to diving into something that isn’t biz-related for a change. Let me know if you end up grabbing the 4-Hour Workweek!
