Like most of my fellow Texans, this weekend we’ve been glued to the TV and our phones as we watched Hurricane Harvey ravage our coastline and our southernmost cities. With my husband hailing from Northwest Houston, we are no strangers to the havoc that heavy rains can bring to one of our state’s largest cities. But this weekend, flooding and devastation has been unprecedented and unlike anything we’ve seen in our lifetimes. Our hearts go out to the family members, friends, and my incredible clients who have evacuated the area or who are hunkering down in an effort to wait out the storms and the record-level flooding. If you are looking for a way to contribute to the relief efforts in Houston, I’ve compiled a list of local organizations that are on the ground in the greater Houston area and who desperately need our help.
To help the hundreds of animals displaced as a result of the flooding, please consider donating to Austin Pets Alive! This nonprofit has been working tirelessly to rescue animals who were left behind or separated from their families in the chaos. You can donate to Austin Pets Alive here.
To help the homeless of Houston, please contribute to the Houston Coalition for the Homeless here.
To contribute to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund as set up by the City of Houston, please donate here.
To help families with little ones, the Texas Diaper Bank could use your help. Diapers are bulky in nature and are difficult to transport to disaster areas. The Texas Diaper Bank ensures that families are able to receive the diapers they need for their children. Donate here.
To help with the food shortages that are sure to occur, please donate to the Houston Area Food Bank here.
And, finally, if you are located in Texas, Carter Blood Care is accepting donations for whole blood and more. Get connected with your local center here.
If you’re looking to make a purchase with a purpose, local clothing store Congress Clothing has created a t-shirt with 100% of proceeds going to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. You can shop that design here.
Also, Magnolia Market has taken their popular “Texas Forever” t-shirt and will donate 100% of proceeds now through the end of September to disaster relief. Shop that design here.
If you have any other Houston or southeast Texas-area organizations we can be contributing to, please share in the comments below. Together, we will get through this. We are all in this together and we will stand by each other no matter what. #texasstrong
