4 Foolproof Steps for a More Strategic Website (Without Re-branding!)

Yesterday, I walked you through my favorite website platform and why I trust these guys with my client sites (and my own websites!) on a daily basis. But today, let’s chat about some easy, actionable steps you can take to uplevel your current website without going through an expensive re-brand or redesign. Because I get it, boss lady. Your website is your brand’s online home, and it’s a crucial first point-of-contact with potential clients! So keep reading for some of my go-to strategies I implement when creating client sites that deliver lasting results, woo dream clients, and tell my clients’ stories well.

Introduce Yourself

First and foremost, make it abundantly clear who you are, what you do, and who it’s for (i.e. your ideal client). Don’t make potential clients search for the important details of how your expertise fits into their life. Instead, make good use of the valuable real estate on your home page by adding a short blurb that outlines who you are, what qualifies you to serve your ideal clients well, reiterate just who it is that you serve, and share a quick rundown of what you do. Now, this doesn’t have to be a five paragraph bio! Instead, this can be a brief section that piques your potential client’s interest as they learn more about the face behind your brand, and how your work can either add value to their life or solve a problem they’re facing. Create a Flow

When laying out your website, it’s important to think strategically about the overall flow of your site. What I mean by that is how do you want potential clients to walk through your website? What pages do you want them to visit? At what stage in their journey do you want them to visit that specific page? Rather than hoping your potential client will walk through your website as you intend for them to, make it easy for them to access the important information they need to make an informed decision about you and your work. Focus on the important details that coach a conversion and leave any excess by the wayside.

Write to your Ideal Client

But don’t just stop there! Write to your ideal client’s pain point, or whatever is standing in their way of achieving greatness (whatever greatness looks like to them!). Your website should clearly outline just how your work can fit into your client’s life and alleviate whatever pain point they’re currently wrestling with. When the words you share on your website enable a potential client to clearly envision what life could be like if they worked with you, then you know your copy is doing its job!

If you’re not sure where to start with this, ask yourself what pain points your ideal clients are wrestling with. Then, examine how your services or product could alleviate that pain point or add value to their life.

Call Your Visitor into Action

Remember how we talked about creating an intentional flow to your website a minute ago? That foundational work really comes into play in this step! Rather than send your potential client in a million different directions on your website (Take this free quiz! Read this blog post! Look at all my favorite things!), guide your website visitors to the specific pages of your site that educate them on who you are, what you do, and why they need your work in the first place. Believe me when I say that your potential client is already feeling overwhelmed with options when they land on your website. They definitely don’t need to choose between visiting your blog or reading about your services on top of that! Instead, include one clear call-to-action (CTA) on each page. Make it clear where you want potential clients to go and utilize that overall flow of your website to guide them through all the information they could possibly need to take action and book you!
