Join me at the Team Flower Conference in Pasadena

Earlier this year I had the absolute honor to be a keynote speaker at the Team Flower Conference right here in beautiful Waco, TX.

It’s not every day that you enter into a conference room of 100+ floral geniuses in your own hometown, so let me tell you, it was exciting to join this conference for several intentional days of learning, growing, and community building.

3 LESSONS I LEARNED FROM THE TEAM FLOWER CONFERENCE

Over the years, I’ve been so incredibly blessed to serve as an educator at different workshops, conferences and retreats. But, I can honestly say that I was instantly impressed by how unique the space was.

Not in terms of the decor—although of course if you put a room full of floral designers, farmers, shop owners, wedding planners, and all those who are deeply immersed in the floral community together they’re going to create pure floral magic—but in terms of the culture that was created.

It was a space where every idea, every person, and every entrepreneur—no matter how experienced they were—were welcomed. You didn’t have to have all the answers, you didn’t have to wear the latest designs or have the coolest industry secrets, you could show up as you were and be welcomed by everyone with open arms.

That’s especially how I felt as a brand designer and strategist. Although I’m honored to work with so many floral designers through my 1:1 branding services and through my group coaching program, I know nothing about the floral industry in the sense of what it actually takes to work that magic day in and day out. And even though I was a bit out of my element in terms of the more practical content, I also gained so much wisdom from the sessions throughout the conference.

And today, I want to share with you three lessons that I learned from the Team Flower Conference here in Waco along with a special invitation to join me at the Team Flower Conference 2020 in Pasadena, CA at the end of this post.

YOUR WORK BRINGS MORE JOY INTO THE WORLD

The first lesson I learned is that your work brings more joy into the world.

So often it’s all too easy for us, no matter what we do—whether product- or service-based businesses—to really put our heads down and do the work. Day in and day out we get wrapped up in client work, administration duties, and in #allthethings that it takes to keep our businesses moving forward that we forget this simple truth: what we do matters.

When I think about the work that every single person at the Team Flower Conference does—no matter whether they’re a farmer florist or a wedding planner offering floral design—I realized that every single person who was a part of that experience is literally bringing more joy into the world through the work that they do.

And if you think about it, you and I are no different.

The work that we do brings joy into the lives of our clients and customers no matter what we’re doing. No matter how big or how small your work is you’re bringing something into existence that is making someone’s life easier, brighter and more purposeful.

And when I think about that, there’s a huge amount of possibility in how you can use your talents and your gifts to bring more goodness into the world. I don’t know about you, but I feel like our world could use more of that goodness now more than ever, don’t you think?

CREATIVITY REQUIRES INTERNAL NURTURING

The second thing I took away from the Team Flower Conference this year is that your creativity requires internal nurturing.

I think one of the most common misconceptions about creativity is that it’s a force that requires external simulation.

We’re always thinking of creativity in the sense of “I need to go out into the world to seek inspiration,” or “I need to go out of my way in order to be inspired,” or “I need to do x, y, and z in order to ignite my creativity.”

But realistically, your creativity existed long within you way before Pinterest existed or you even knew what an art museum was.

Instead of constantly looking outward to find inspiration for your creativity, shift your focus on the internal nurturing you can offer yourself that will really bring your creativity to its brightest and boldest yet.

YOU CAN’T GROW IN A VACUUM

The third lesson I learned at the Team Flower Conference is that you can’t grow in a vacuum. I believe that as entrepreneurs it’s all too tempting to put our heads down and be so focused on doing the work. And that makes it all too easy to forget the kind of growth, positive change, and the kind of community that can come if we put ourselves outside of our comfort zone every now and then.

If you’re choosing to spend all of your work days holed up in your office in order to get your work done and you’re never putting yourself out there: never meeting new industry friends, never challenging yourself to learn something new, and never growing—then I believe you can only take yourself so far.

You cannot grow in isolation.

If you think of it this way, a flower cannot grow without sunshine. So you fellow entrepreneur, cannot grow without the right environment.
