Back in 2012, I did something that completely changed the trajectory of my business: I stopped listening to the wrong people.
There are business gurus who believe the key to getting more branding clients (and making more money!) is to:
- Work harder
- Longer hours
- Add more projects
- Hustle to get out in front of your ideal clients
And I completely disagree. 🙅🏻♀️
Going “all in” ALL the time is just a recipe for burnout.
I used to believe that success happened in the hustle. I believed that in order to earn more, I had to do more.
But I unintentionally put myself on the fast-track path to burnout and overwhelm.
I decided to make an impactful change and discovered the business secret that no one was teaching—a heartfelt approach to building a brand design + strategy business that didn’t require my time or energy to make more money or connect with my ideal clients.
THE BIG PROBLEM IN THE DESIGN INDUSTRY
But today in the year 2020, let’s all do something even bigger than simply stop listening to the wrong people. Let’s take a stand to change the design industry by intentionally listening to the uncomfortable problem we have in the design industry and standing up for our fellow Black designers.
Did you know that fewer than 5% of the design industry is Black? Friends, this is a BIG problem. How can we “design for change” when the design industry is part of the problem?
As an educator for designers, I’m attending this free event to learn how I can be a part of the change, not a part of this continuing problem.
If you’ve been following me for any length of time then you know as a designer, brand strategist, and coach my heart is for YOU.
My heart is to see your business thrive because I believe the work you do matters. I believe the work you do has the power to change lives and change the world. No matter what you do or what you sell, I want to see your business thrive!
Where are the Black Designers is an initiative which aims to give a platform to creatives of color. By connecting designers, educators, and creative leaders. On June 27, this initiative is starting a dialogue about change in and out of the design industry.
Will you join me there?
Once you sign up, head on over to Instagram and shoot me a DM that you’re attending! I’d love to further this conversation with you there on how we can be part of the change!
