Episode 157: How to Set Goals You’ll Actually Achieve

It’s that time of the year when we’re all focused on making progress our new goals or we’re still mapping them out! I’ve found that traditional goal setting leaves entrepreneurs in this continued mindset of wanting for more.

If you aren’t seeing the traction on your goals that you want to see or you  haven’t started goal setting for this year, this episode is for you.

Join me as I walk through the foundational components to setting goals you’ll actually achieve based on the way I plan and goal set in my own life and business.

Traditional Goal Setting

Tradition goal setting emphasizes the accomplishment of an end goal and if we don’t meet the goals, we feel like a failure.

Instead… remove emotion so your worth is not tied to the goals you are setting.

Let’s consider: how can I recenter my attention and energy on who I am, not what I accomplish.

Reframe Your Mindset

Instead of getting all caught up in the tasks and accomplishments, lets reframe our mindset and center our attention on who we want to be as people.

Your goals should be based on you, not on someone else’s idea of success.

Who do you want to be?
How do you want to serve?
How do you want to grow?

Nix Annual Planning

One big concept to this approach is to nix annual planning. Stop setting goals based on a marathon and start setting them based on a sprint.

In my own business, I do quarterly planning. Imagine this as a 90 day sprint versus a 360 day marathon.

This allows you to regularly assess your progress, along with pivoting based on how you’re doing and where you’ve grown in the last quarter.

In addition, this also allows you to be intentional with what you consume and what you implement.

Slow growth strategies will never empower you to see the explosive growth you want to see in your business.

Setting goals does not need to feel challenging. Every person has a method that works best for them. This works best for me and my business.
