If one of your blog posts or Instagram captions were to pop up online without your logo, username, or identifying info anywhere nearby, would people still be able to recognize that original content as yours? Unless you’ve intentionally created a distinct, easily recognizable brand voice, your content may be getting lost in the crowd. So today, let’s chat about how to create a readily recognizable brand voice that helps you stand out from the crowd and connect with your ideal clients, all while allowing your personality to shine through!
CREATING A READILY RECOGNIZABLE BRAND VOICE
Before diving into this topic, let’s first define the term “brand voice.”
I’m not referencing the actual vocal voice you use when you hop on a business call. Rather, I’m talking about the tone used throughout your messaging, from online posts to emails to website content and more! Every touchpoint is an opportunity to incorporate your brand voice.
Not only does a well-defined, unique brand voice make your content recognizable, but it also creates consistency across your platforms. So, without further ado, let’s dive into a few tips on how to create our own distinct brand voices!
Consider your brand
Take a look at your logo, your branded materials (digital and physical), and most importantly, the heart behind your business. Then, determine what tone would naturally represent the visuals, heart, and strategy of your brand to your audience.
Next, choose 3 adjectives to describe your brand, and consider what type of voice would represent those qualities organically. To some extent, your audience’s perception of your brand will be formed based on the words used in your messaging. Be sure that the voice you’re crafting is authentic, sustainable, and feels comfortable to use day in and day out!
Consider your audience
Before getting too deep into the voice you’re creating for your brand, be sure to consider how that voice will resonate with your audience. If you have a clear profile of your ideal client, use that to brainstorm the types of tones, keywords, and overarching messages they would identify most closely with.
Feeling a little stuck on how to determine what type of voice would resonate best with your audience? Use these prompts as a springboard for your introspection!
- What type of emotion is your brand voice striving to inspire?
- What is it about those specific emotion that are worth inspiring?
- Which intentional keywords would inspire trust, spark a conversation, or lay the foundation for a genuine relationship?
Consider your message
Lastly, let’s consider your message.
If you’re working hard to establish your brand as an eco-friendly, organic skincare line, then choosing a voice that evokes a sense of calm, balance, and harmony will keep you on-message. Likewise, if you’re striving to create an authentic, relatable brand, ditch the ultra-formal language and opt instead for something more conversational that flows off the tongue.
Your brand voice should serve as a powerful tool to equip you to spread your brand story, connect with your ideal audience, and build both consistency and a sense of trustworthiness wherever you go.
