Happy Friday, friends! This time tomorrow, I’ll be boarding a plane headed for Annapolis, where I’ll be reuniting with my favorite boss ladies in the industry for another round of the Creative at Heart Conference. With how quickly this movement has grown over the past year, it’s hard to believe that it was less than two years ago that my sweet friend Kat of Dear Sweetheart Events was sharing her vision for this conference with our group of creative friends. I’m honored and incredibly excited to be speaking on embracing change within your brand, and already can’t wait to connect with so many bright eyed and big dreaming creatives!
When I’m traveling for a speaking engagement, the last thing I want to do is mess with lost luggage. Which is why I always bring carryons and forgo checking luggage unless I absolutely must. For work trips, I’m often gone for up to a week, so traveling light and bringing versatile pieces for mixing and matching is the way to go.
Thankfully, the Creative at Heart Conference doesn’t require a strict dress code of business appropriate attire, but that also means I won’t be wanting to show up in my jammers! This trip, I’m focusing on bringing cozy sweaters, lighter layers and bottoms that can be easily folded. The weather in Annapolis this weekend looks cold and overcast, which is a big switch from the sunny skies and high 80’s we’ve been experiencing in Texas! Versatile layers are a must-have, along with simple accessories and a statement piece or two in order to dress things up. It’s not often that I get to break out my scarves in March, so I’ll be bringing at least one with me, too! This blanket scarf I picked up from Zara last year in blush pink doubles as a light wrap on chilly plane rides, too.
Whenever I travel for a speaking engagement, I do my best to be fully present in that experience, which means turning on the out of office auto responder and leaving the laptop at home! I know I’m one of the few business owners who takes this approach, but I would rather spend my evenings engaging with conference attendees or catching up with old friends than catching up on email. I do bring along my iPad Mini in case there’s something pressing I need to take care of, or to access my notes for a presentation.
How do you prepare for work travel, friend? What are your go-to pieces you bring?
