5 reasons to rebrand your business in the off-season

November 15, 2018

I understand how hectic this time of year can be. If you are a service-based creative in the wedding industry, I know full well you are coming off a crazy season where you’ve been non-stop busy. But sweet friend there is hope. The holidays are right around the corner and your off-season is probably fast approaching, too.

This time of year is a great opportunity for you to rest, refresh and look forward to how you can make 2019 your best year yet.

On top of that I firmly believe there is so much power in using your off-season to invest back into your business. More often than not, some of my favorite branding projects have actually happened during my client’s off-season. This is because they had more time to devote to rebranding their business with so much intention and heart which allowed the entire project to come together perfectly.

So today, I want to walk you through five reasons why rebranding your business during the off-season is a strategic and wise decision for your business and your bottom line.

1. THE OFF-SEASON CREATES THE MENTAL SPACE AND ENERGY TO INVEST BACK INTO YOUR BUSINESS

First and foremost, I want to highlight that this is such a great opportunity to use your slower season.

An off-season is a great opportunity to finally have the mental space and energy to invest back into your business. It’s a fantastic chance to think about the ways you want to grow. And it’s a great time to finally catch your breath.

Because of that, it’s a powerful opportunity for you to see the ways to rebrand your business or maybe go through an intentional brand refresh to propel your business forward.

(Not sure the difference between a rebrand or a brand refresh? I got you friend. I walk through the difference between the two in my blog post: “Rebrand vs. Brand Refresh”.)

2. SET BIG GOALS FOR THE SEASON AHEAD

The thing about having a slower season, especially for those of you who are photographers, event planners, or any service-based industry that has busy and slow seasons is that your off-season gives you an opportunity to look at how far you’ve come.

The nice thing about your weddings or events dying down come November and December is that it gives you dedicated time to really sit down and focus on what comes next for you and your business.

Hopefully you’ve had an amazing season and you knocked your 2018 goals right out of the park. But now is the time to turn your energy to 2019 and think about the ways your brand can help you reach your goals in the New Year.

Do you want to book more high-end clients? Then crafting an elevated brand will help position your business and get your work in front of those people.

Do you want to be booking more ideal clients? Well then perhaps a heartfelt brand that shares the core of your life’s work will speak to the heart of those dreamy clients you want to serve.

Whatever your goals are. I highly encourage you to look at your branding—not just your visuals—and ask yourself, is my brand propelling me in the direction of my goals? Or maybe it might even be holding you back in some ways.

3. SHOWCASE AN ELEVATED BRAND THAT REFLECTS YOUR BEST

The third reason why rebranding your business during the off-season is a strategic decision is that you showcase an elevated brand that reflects your very best.

The nice thing about going through the rebrand season in your off-season is that you have all the incredible work you did in 2018 to work into your new collateral. Whether that’s weaving in gorgeous new photos of the weddings you shot throughout your website. Or updating your welcome guide with beautiful events you designed in 2018. This is an amazing chance for you to highlight your best and most recent work.

Every year, I know that so many of my incredible service-based biz friends are taking time to update their portfolios on their websites, social channels, and any other marketing platforms.

I think this is a wonderful opportunity to take that even one step further, and update your portfolio at the same time you update your brand. This way you can walk into 2019 with a fresh, intentional new face for your business.

4. GET IN FRONT OF YOUR IDEAL CLIENT AT AN OPTIMAL TIME

I work primarily with creatives who are in the wedding industry, so I fully understand how valuable the holidays are in terms of engagements and the great chances you have to get your work out in front of a recently engaged couple.

With that in mind, rebranding during the off-season gives you the chance to launch a beautiful strategic new brand and strategy at the right time. The time in your ideal client’s journey where they are in need of your services.

They are aware they need a photographer, a wedding planner or any other wedding vendor to make their big day everything they dreamt of. This is the perfect time for you to showcase your work and show them how you can fit into their big day.

And what’s more. If they are coming across a brand new elevated heartfelt presence, then they are seeing your best work, your most heartfelt words, and your intentional strategy to boot. This will absolutely resonate with your ideal clients and encourage them to hit that contact button to get in touch with you to learn more about you and your services.

5. LAUNCH WITH STRATEGY NOT IN A HURRY

The fifth reason to rebrand your business during the off-season is to launch with strategy and not in a hurry.

One of the biggest mistakes I see creatives who are going through the rebranding process make all boils down to how they approach their launch.

So often I see people go through all this trouble to invest in a beautiful new brand and then they choose to hit publish without really educating their audience about why they rebranded or even what changes they made.

The result is a big investment that doesn’t necessarily go noticed by your audience or potential clients.

On top of that I see a lot of creatives who focus on launching a new brand in a really busy season. But trust me, there’s nothing worse than feeling like you have to make decisions for your new visual brand or approve ideas and concepts with your brand designer and strategist in a hurry.

So instead why not choose to invest in your business and take some intentional time to launch your new brand in a season when you have time.

WHY YOU SHOULD REBRAND YOUR BUSINESS IN THE OFF-SEASON

You can do it right. You don’t have to be in a hurry when launching your brand. And the great thing about working with a brand strategist and designer is that they most likely can help equip you with the tools and insight you need to launch your new brand, website and coordinating collateral with a huge amount of strategy.

As a part of every custom branding project I take on. I specifically carve out a one hour strategy call where we can devote the entire conversation to diving into the exact launch strategy that my clients will use to launch their new, elevated brand and website content out in front of their dreamy ideal clients.
