I switched to an all-natural skincare routine and here’s what happened

December 6, 2019

Around this time last year, I made a big decision–I broke up with all my old favorite skincare products and made the scary-but-necessary switch to an all-natural, vegan skincare routine. And I haven’t looked back since!

Everyone has their reasons behind switching to all-natural skincare products. Whether you’re dreaming of clearing up pesky skin issues, you simply want to be kinder to your body, or you’re looking to cut down on the number of chemicals you’re exposed to on a daily basis, switching to better-for-you products shouldn’t feel like a never ending quest.

Trust me, I did all the research before landing on the products that are now my tried-and-true favorites! And here’s the kicker… my skin has never been happier.

I should note that I have sensitive skin that’s prone to dryness and redness. So I make a point to look for products that are hydrating, gentle, and don’t contain aggressive irritants. I also view skincare products as a preventative measure. I’d rather pay more for a good moisturizer or a gentle cleanser now than pay a dermatologist to help battle skin issues later.

Although I’m still learning so much about how to care for my skin, especially as I continue to age, here’s a roundup of what I’ve been loving over the last 12 months.

My All-Natural AM Routine

Mornings aren’t always my favorite so this is a time where I focus on going slowly, being kind to myself, and starting the day with a little intention. I use the time I cleanse my face or apply my skincare products to be fully present with my body in the moment, not mentally run through my never-ending to-do list.

Here’s my order for application:

  • Cleanse face with this gentle cleanser to wake skin up and remove any impurities
  • Spray this rose water tonic (which smells amazing!) to clean skin
  • Once that soaks in, I apply this hyaluronic serum for extra hydration
  • While that’s soaking in, I gently apply Clark’s Botanicals Retinol Rescue Eye Serum. Sadly, that product has been discontinued so I’m on the hunt for a new clean eye serum that includes retinol or a brightening agent. I’ve heard good things about this affordable one or this option. Working at a computer most days doesn’t help with the dark circles under my eyes, so ya girl needs all the help. 😉
  • Treat skin with a mix of vitamin C & E to help brighten, increase cell turnover, and prevent aging
  • Apply this luxuriously thick moisturizer
  • Seal it all in with a few drops of rosehip oil. And no, applying oil to your skin won’t make you breakout.
  • After I’ve given my skincare time to fully absorb, I apply sunscreen before applying makeup. My clean, vegan beauty routine is coming soon!

My All-Natural PM Routine

Evenings are the time to wash off the day! In an effort to cut down on the number of cotton balls or disposable makeup remover products I use, I picked up this little Makeup Eraser on Amazon. It’s amazing what it removes with just water!

Because I have sensitive skin, I only exfoliate once or twice a week. When I do, I use this vitamin C antioxidant polish which I mix with a pump of my daily cleanser

I then repeat the rose water spray, hyaluronic serum, and eye serum steps before treating my face with this affordable retinoid serum. I worked my way up to using this nightly as I have no sensitivity or irritation when I use it. Not everyone has that experience with retinoids or retinol, so experiment with what works best for your skin type. I use retinoid to help prevent early aging, fine lines, and collagen production.

Finally, I layer on my moisturizer then top it all off with a few drops of my trusty rosehip oil.

My Occasional Clean Indulgences

Although I use the majority of the same products both day and night, I love treating myself to a good face mask every now and then! I love this white algae mask from my favorite skincare brand, the beloved jet lag mask, and this exfoliating pink clay mask

So there you have it, friends! My full skincare routine that’s completely vegan, natural, and mostly organic.

I’d love to hear what natural skincare products you’re loving lately! Fill me in via the comments below.
