Earlier this Spring, I shared some exciting news on my Instagram account that I’ve been fortunate enough to join forces with a brand I’ve loved for years, Sseko Designs, as a member of their Sole Sisters program! If you’re new to Sseko, they’re a socially conscious brand that partners with women in Uganda to teach them marketable skills while they earn scholarships for a university education. From beautiful jewelry to handmade sandals to expertly crafted handbags, the women behind the Sseko team are as talented as they are tenacious!
The Sseko concept is simple — wear Sseko and send a woman to college. I’ve been a fan of Sseko since I was in college myself, and it was a total honor to be invited to participate in their Sole Sister program this year. The Sole Sister program pairs one woman here in the States with one woman from their artisan team in Uganda to build community from across the globe. My sweet Sole Sister is named Shakira, and she’s a courageous woman chasing after her dream of studying design at university, all while watching a good horror film (her favorite!) and snacking on some chili-flavored treats. I love that we both are drawn to art, design, and draw inspiration from nature. I’m humbled to be able to get to know her better, and to be able to share part of her story with y’all!
As a new member of the Sole Sister team, I’m excited to be featured on Sseko’s blog today. I’m sharing a little bit about myself, my favorite picks from their Spring collection, and some first-hand examples of how I’ve seen magic happen in my own life. Be sure to head over to the Sseko blog to see the full feature!
P.S. As an incredibly generous offer, the ladies at Sseko are offering y’all 15% off your next order from now until June with code BISFORBONNIE15 at checkout! A portion of every single purchase will go directly to helping Shakira attend university, and I would be truly humbled if you would consider helping this young woman chase after her dreams.
