Although this announcement may not seem all that exciting to some, my fellow boss ladies will understand how exciting a change in office hours can be! For the past three years, I’ve kept with the same schedule, and it has been wonderful. I’m a big believer in the transforming power setting solid boundaries can have in the life of a small business owner, and I’ve experienced firsthand the way that setting clear boundaries can lead to better balance.
That being said, it was time for a change! Office hours are only as good as long as they fit the season of life you are in. And thankfully, we’ve had some big, beautiful changes come our way that have made my old schedule not quite as productive as before. So, effective immediately, the b is for bonnie studio is operating with some slightly revamped hours!
For those of you who haven’t been around these parts for very long, I utilize office hours to separate work time from personal time. During my office hours, I work with clients, check emails, blog and manage social media, and design my little heart out! As soon as my office hours conclude for the day, it’s off to run errands, cook dinner with my sweetheart, or soak up some puppy snuggles with Boone. Not only do my office hours allow me to maintain a consistent balance in my life, they also enable me to stay fresh and avoid burnout! In case you can’t tell, I’m a big fan.
My new office schedule enables me to still maintain that balance, while devoting even more uninterrupted time to my clients. As my little business has grown, there’s been an influx of collaboration inquiries, creative projects and all sorts of backend responsibilities that distract me from doing what I love most – working one-on-one with my incredible boss ladies! In order to protect that time, I’ve designated Fridays as “in-service days,” or days spent entirely devoted to current creative projects with little to no email access. For as much as I love email, it sure is distracting, right?
Mondays through Thursdays will be work days as usual, spent with my sweet clients, working on collaborations, and managing the day-to-day responsibilities of the office. Although it’s not a drastic schedule change, I’m structuring my work week this way to not only better serve my clients, but to also carve out more time for creative opportunities and manage project timelines more efficiently. This is a small change prompted by some exciting new developments for the studio, and our personal lives, and I can’t wait to share more with y’all soon!
As a business owner, do you have set office hours? How has following a set work schedule helped your workflow?
Awesome Bonnie! I would love to see an office tour on your blog. I’m sure your office is gorgeous and bright and great for inspiration!
