Fellow designer, I completely understand the desire to book more dream design clients. You are so talented and you love the work you do, but what would make it better is a constant and consistent stream of inquiries from your incredible ideal clients.

Not only are you a talented designer, but I also see you searching and striving to book the kinds of clients who really do make your heart sing. Who trust your creative process and give you the creative freedom to do your best work.

But I know it’s not always that easy. I wish it were as simple as waving a magic wand and your dream clients would line up at your door, but instead, we have to invest a little bit more thought and strategy into generating the kinds of inquiries from those dreamy ideal clients we love to serve.

So today, I’m tapping into my seven years of experience as a brand designer and strategist and I’m sharing with you four easy to implement methods to book more dream design clients.

KNOW WHO YOUR DREAM CLIENTS ARE

First up, in order to generate inquiries from you dream design clients, we have to know who they are.

Now, before you roll your eyes and think this is super simple hear me out. If you are going to create the kind of content, offerings and processes that speak to your ideal clients they have to be designed with those people in mind.

And in order to do that, we have to get specific about who your dream clients are.

BE WHERE YOUR IDEAL CLIENTS ARE ONLINE

Once we understand who you’re trying to reach, where they’re struggling, and how your work fits into their life, then we can figure out how we can be where they already are online.

Think of it this way. Does your ideal client gather inspiration on Pinterest? Are they utilizing Instagram to connect with fellow entrepreneurs? Maybe they’re spending time soaking up Facebook Lives. Wherever they are consuming content and spending their time, that’s where you need to be.

Show up where they already are organically.

If you’re stuck trying to figure out where your ideal clients are spending their time online, just ask them. Reach out to someone who matches the description of your ideal client and gather details on where they source inspiration, where they like to mindlessly scroll in the evenings, and where they go to connect with others.

Having that input will be so valuable in leveraging your own marketing content to get out in front of your ideal clients authentically.

CLEARLY COMMUNICATE THE BENEFITS

The third way to book more dream design clients is to clearly communicate the benefits of working together.

What I mean is if you’re going to drive inquiries to your website from your dreamy clients, then it’s important to clearly communicate with them exactly what to expect when they choose to work with you.

So often I see talented designers struggle to get yeses from proposals they are sending out simply because of a few commonly solvable objections that pop up.

In my experience, nine out of 10 times, these objections are occurring because of a lack of communication. And that lack of communication is simply that your ideal client does not clearly see the value and benefit of what it could look like to work with you.

That tells me we need to do a better job of communicating to our potential clients of what they can expect when they choose to invest in our products or services.

Outline to them how working with you will be a strategic investment. What kinds of growth they can expect to see. What kinds of emotional benefits they can expect to feel. If you can outline all the ways your ideal client will benefit and grow when working with you, then you can generate more inquiries in an organic and authentic way.

WOW THEM WITH A POLISHED PROCESS

Fourth and finally, wow your dream client with a polished process.

If you’ve gone through all the hard work of figuring out who your ideal clients are, where they are online, and then you’re wowing them with a clearly articulated offer, it’s now time to go above and beyond to dazzle them with a polished inquiry process.

From start to finish, make it so easy for inquiring individuals to not only connect with you, but also learn more about your process, your approach, the next steps and the onboarding process as a whole.
