Hi friend, I’m so excited to have you join us for this week’s episode of the Brand Strategy Podcast where we are diving into all things branding.
Specifically re-branding your business, how to tell it’s time to re-brand your business and really breaking down the idea of what re-branding even is.
It’s one of those topics I see popping up all over, and I think it’s an easy term to misunderstand.
So today, I want to take a few minutes to walk you through what re-branding your business really means, when it’s a good idea to re-brand, and four easy steps to self audit your brand.
What is a full re-brand?
3:15 – As a designer, I get inquiries all the time if I can help them re-brand their business or refresh their brand. But it’s so easy to misunderstand what branding really is.
4:15 – When a client is asking for a “re-brand”, what they are actually asking for is a complete overhaul of their existing materials and starting from scratch with their brand.
Re-branding is dramatic changes to the visuals, the strategy behind those visuals and even the trajectory of your business moving forward.
5:00 – A full re-brand has some great benefits. It can offer a fresh start and blank slate. But it can also be confusing for your audience, your followers and ideal clients. So it’s incredible important to clue your audience into the big changes you are making with your business.

What is a brand refresh?
6:50 – A brand refresh is all about making strategic updates here and there to reflect new growth. This could be a shift in your business or trying to connect with a specific kind of ideal client. This is a great option for someone who loves their current brand, but thinks it could be a little better!
7:45 – When I work with clients who want to freshen up their brand we are doing things like updating their color palette, maybe tweaking their logo here and there or creating gorgeous custom stationary. But for the most part, we aren’t making any big changes to the face of their brand.
8:15 – The goal of a brand refresh is to breathe some new life into things. It’s not to tear down everything you’ve built and throw a completely new presence at your ideal client. Instead, it’s simply to take what you already have in place and elevate it.
Tune in using the audio player above to get the full benefits of a brand refresh and what to expect as you walk through these changes.
How can you tell if it’s time to re-brand your business in the first place?
9:50 – This isn’t something we just dive into and it’s certainly not something I would advise you to do without intention. So here are four easy ways to tell if it’s time to re-brand your business:
- Is your brand holding you back from reaching your goals? (11:35)
- Are the wrong clients consistently inquiring for your service? (12:35)
- Do you find that your visual brand doesn’t speak to your level of expertise for the kind of work that you do? (15:00)
- Is your brand boxing you into work that you don’t love anymore? (16:50)
19:15 You can really dive into the kinds of work that excites you in the long run, but also build the overarching strategy that will equip you with what you need to do the work that you love in a sustainable and enduring way.
